Taking LSD1 to a New High
Histone modifications mediate changes in gene expression by altering the underlying chromatin structure or by serving as a binding platform to recruit other proteins. One such modification, histone methylation, was thought to be irreversible until last year when Shi and co-workers broke new ground with their discovery of a lysine-specific histone demethylase (LSD 1). They showed that LSD 1, a n...

An interaction that gets things started he nuclear envelope clearly helps regulate eukaryotic DNA replication, but many of the molecular pieces of this process are still unknown. On page 177, Martins et al. describe a novel, direct interaction between the nuclear envelope and the genome, mediated by the inner nuclear membrane protein LAP2b and the nuclear matrix– associated protein HA95, that i...
متن کاملBoom: Taking Boolean Program Model Checking One Step Further
Abstract. We present Boom, a comprehensive analysis tool for Boolean programs. We focus in this paper on model-checking non-recursive concurrent programs. Boom implements a recent variant of counter abstraction, where thread counters are used in a program-context aware way. While designed for bounded counters, this method also integrates well with the Karp-Miller tree construction for vector ad...
متن کاملStandardized Geoprocessing - Taking Spatial Data Infrastructures one Step Further
Spatial data infrastructures (SDI) have been widely accepted to share geospatial data among organizations. Today SDI’s main focus lies on distributed data storage in the form of spatial web services, the retrieval through catalogues, and the visualization in form of web map services. The hypothesis presented in this paper takes SDI’s one step further by providing a method to process geodata, in...
متن کاملTaking it up a notch in MCL.
In this issue of Blood, Kridel et al describe recurrent NOTCH1 mutations in mantle cell lymphoma (MCL) by next-generation sequencing of patient samples and cell lines. They further demonstrate a negative prognostic impact of NOTCH1 mutation in their cohort of patients and sensitivity of MCL cells to NOTCH1 inhibition in vitro, suggesting a novel role for NOTCH1 in this disease.
